About Dartmouth

  • Dartmouth, the twin city of Halifax, was founded in 1750.
  • In 1996, Dartmouth and surrounding communities were amalgamated into the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM)in 1996, yet it still retains its individual identity.
  • Dartmouth was the bedroom community of Halifax, but it also boasted its own industry and commerce sectors.
  • Dartmouth is known as the 'City of Lakes'.
  • Dartmouth is situated along Halifax Harbour, and is connected to Halifax via two suspension bridges and passenger ferry services.
  • Residents of Dartmouth are known as 'Dartmouthians'.
  • Dartmouth is home to air force base CFB Shearwater.

Dartmouth Real Estate

Dartmouth developed as the bedroom community to Halifax so it remains primarily residential. In recent years, Dartmouth real estate has experienced a boom. Dartmouth real estate resale values have remained strong and that has lead to an increase in the number of homes for sale on the market. Housing prices and property values have jumped, and yet the average price of Dartmouth houses remains affordable compared with other urban centres in Canada.
